Customising Clothing (6 week course)

A customising clothing course with Rebecca Hywel-Jones.

In this course we will be looking at hand stitches that are useful for altering and repairing clothing as well as methods that you can use to change the size and fit of garments.

We will also be looking at embroidery techniques which are a great way of embellishing clothing, and appliqué, which is the method of sewing pieces of fabric on top of one another to create a design. Both are a great way to decorate clothing and also perfect if a garment has a hole or stain on it because you can simply cover up the problem area and at the same time make a feature of with a pretty design.

After this we will look at iron on transfers which are perfect if you want to put an image such as a photo or your favourite cartoon onto a garment. This technique is also great if you are in a club, group or even a hen or stag party and want matching t-shirts because it is cheap, quick and easy to do!

Then for the final project we will look at how to turn an old jumper, maybe one that you loved and wore to death once but that is now bobbly and tired looking, into a cute new hot-water bottle cover. Perfect for keeping warm and cosy or as personalised and thoughtful presents for people.

The course is spread over 6 weeks and includes the following;

Week 1: Altering clothing-Stitches and buttons
Week 2: Altering clothing-Hems and Seams

Week 4: Appliqué
Week 5: Iron-on printed transfers
