Why not learn a new hobby or develop your skills further.
Available courses
The Hand Embroidery Network is offering a range of varied creative embroidery and textile courses catering for beginners to advanced levels. Two types of courses are available, single courses or block week courses which are scheduled over a pre-arranged number of weeks. Customising Clothing (6 week course) In this course we will be looking at hand stitches that are useful for altering and repairing clothing as well as methods that you can use to change the size and fit of garments. The course is spread over 6 weeks and includes the following; Week 1: Altering clothing-Stitches and buttons Open to ALL levels of proficiency. £40.00 |

Fabric Manipulation (5 week course) In this course we will be looking at quilting, slashing, gathering and pleating techniques, all of which can be used on clothing, furnishings or even art work. Then we will be using some of the techniques covered on the course to make a cushion cover. The course is spread over 5 weeks and includes the following; Week 1: Quilting Open to ALL levels of proficiency. £40.00 |

Ribbonwork Taster Class - Fuchsia Pot This class will introduce you to the pleasure of stitching with pure silk ribbon to produce a delicate piece of work; suitable for framing or sending as a very special greeting card. Start date December 5th, 2009. £9.00 |

Inspiration to interpretation (4 week course) The aim of this 4 week course is to stimulate your passion for creativity by showing ways of breaking down bias and fears of sketch books and to show how invaluable they can be; in particular to the embroiderer. It aims at sweeping aside some of the preconceived ideas of art and design either in the field of embroidery or fibre and mixed media. This course has started. £35.00 |

Painted Kantha (2 week course) This two week tutorial will show you how to create a painted fabric background for stitch using easily available equipment and a technique that will make you all into watercolour artists. In part one you will learn how to paint the background using a combination of soluble and permanent pens and markers. In week 2 I will show you how to add texture using Kantha Quilting. Found Objects (2 week course) In this tutorial I will show you fun and easy techniques to transfer marks to fabric using objects found in the home, which in the past may have been thrown away. An Introduction to Stumpwork For those who have never attempted Stumpwork before it must seem a rather intimidating project, all those tiny figures and details. However this is not the case. Basically Stumpwork is a form of embroidery using raised work and free standing pieces to show off the variations of embroidering a picture or subject. Modern forms of this work are slightly larger than the original 17th century work although it can be embroidered as large or small as the stitcher prefers. This course has started. £12.00 |

An Introduction to Dyeing In this course we will be looking at dying techniques, which can be a great way of completely changing the look of a garment, whether by dyeing the fabric to a whole new solid colour or creating patterns using tie-dye techniques, which don’t have to be as stereotypically 1960’s as you might think! £15.00 |
